Unlike most children who begin their musical journey playing recorder, Alison began hers at the age of 5 playing the trumpet which quickly gave way to cornet whilst her hands grew. After short forays with the recorder (from age 6) and violin (from age 7), Alison has stuck with the trumpet and cornet.
Alison's early musical activities focussed mainly around school orchestras but has also played with her own brass quartet as well as performing with small ensembles and in church.
Alison first dipped her toes into the brass band world playing Soprano Cornet with Egham Band during which time Alison has performed for the late Queen Mother. Since then Alison has played with Borehamwood Brass, initially as 2nd Solo Cornet, and latterly on Soprano Cornet. Alison has been helping Watford Band on Soprano Cornet since 2003 during which time we have been joined by her husband Cliff on 2nd Horn and daughter Sarah on 3rd Cornet.
Apparently it has been said that Soprano players "ride the brass band wall of death" and Alison believes her do or die attitude and daft sense of humour makes the Soprano Cornet the ideal instrument for her.
